4 Tips for Finding Your Business Besties

You’ve probably seen videos of my business besties (Jam and Kat) and I do all kinds of random things! I consider these ladies to be my business besties. We bounce ideas off each other. We vent. We laugh. We cry. We share wins with each other. We make money. We get into all sorts of shenanigans. I don’t know about you, but making friends as an adult is the pits. And even more so as an entrepreneur.

Being a full-time entrepreneur is one of the loneliest things you can ever do.

When you had a 9-5, you had your cubicle friends, office husband, the water cooler, lunch breaks, office events to socialize at. Sometimes as entrepreneurs, we have fewer ways to create organic close connections with people who are just like you. That’s what you need in a community...business besties. Keep reading for  4 tips to help you find your business besties so you can live your best entrepreneur life.

Tip #1

Create a post introducing yourself. You can do this on Instagram or in Facebook groups related to your space. In the post, you’re going to talk about yourself, your business and your passions. This is what will help you find potential business besties who have similar interests or passions as you.

Tip #2

Slide into the DMs. Now, let me explain exactly what this means before you go running off to DM Oprah asking her to be your BFF…

First, follow the person that you want to connect with as friends. That helps! Make sure that it can be a mutually beneficial friendship and find something GENUINE that you ALSO have in common.  Like, the fact that you love plants, or karaoke, or 90s slow jams. This is not JUST a business-related thing in common. I’m stressing the word genuine because you don’t want to end up that creepy fan girl or faking something just to be their friend.

Remember, the relationship..in fact, all relationships should be mutually beneficial.

Once you’ve followed them,  you’re going to engage with them...comment, like and share their posts, etc. You’ll do this because when you slide into the DMs, she’s already going to be aware of who you are. And let it happen naturally from there. One thing to keep in mind, you can’t be friends with everyone and everyone shouldn’t be your friend.

Tip #3

Attend virtual (or in-person) conferences. Attending paid conferences immediately puts you in the same room with other like-minded entrepreneurs and you get to learn and strategize to grow your business.

The best part about attending PAID conferences is that you’ll know that your potential BFF is willing to invest in themselves and their business.

In fact, it was through Kat Gaskin’s Content Planning Workshop that I really connected with Kat and Jam. If you attend events and engage with your fellow attendees, you’ll be sure to find a friend or 2.

Tip #4

Join a virtual membership. Joining a community with like-minded entrepreneurs is a glorious thing to be a part of. In the past, I created a tight-knit community of people who wanted to continuously grow their confidence to help them do the big things in their business. Many of the members became close business besties and are still in contact with one another.
